It isn't so much as how much you have; but, rather how you use it. To get a gold medal on an Azriel, two things have to happen:

1) You need to get in 15 million (15,000,000) damage; AND
2) She needs to be killed within 24 hours of summoning.

The challenge for most is getting in the 15M in such a short time. Stamina is by far the best stat for accumulating damage. To do this, some planning is helpful. Having a full (or nearly full) store of Stamina before the battle starts and being able to level shortly after expending it all is a good start. Many use Favor Points (FP) to refill their stamina until they have made the goal -- so saving those up for a "medal run" is a good idea.

An AZ is not an easy critter to bring down -- even in the normally allotted time -- so you will want to have this thing well coordinated before launching into it -- making sure you have plenty of folks available who need the medal and/or are willing to help.

To give you a reference: I have over 1000 stamina and 300 attack, but I still had to use favor points to reach the gold medal damage on Azriel.
